Rim strips go on the inside of the rim. They help protect your tube from being punctured or pinched by the spoke nipples. Rather than using tape and making a mess, just replace the rim strip, it's cheap insurance.

These offer some sweet protection. They are a must if you are replacing your tubes. Don't settle for the old ones...These are super cheap!
